Complementary Medicine

Complementary medicine unit at Urlavet

Looking at the history of medicine, positive science has a history of about 200 years. Yet human history goes back much further, and we know that some treatments were practised long before that. The treatment methods that have come down to us were tested and confirmed by positive science and then renewed with today’s medical knowledge before being put into use. Over time, developments and treatments in this field have also been supported by scientific studies.

The treatment methods that have come down to us were tested and confirmed by positive science and then renewed with today’s medical knowledge before being put into use.

The shared aim of alternative treatments is to activate and strengthen the body’s own repair mechanisms in order to treat disease. Some of the treatments that have come down to us are manual therapies, herbal treatments, homeopathy, light therapies and resonance therapies.

Alternative treatments we use at our hospital

Acupuncture

This method was born in China 5,000 years ago and is used all over the world today. Animals have been treated with it for 3,000 years. Acupuncture points on energy pathways called meridians are stimulated with needles, laser or heat (moxibustion) so that the energy known as Qi (chi) flows in a balanced way. Diseases are believed to arise when this energy does not flow properly. In this system, energy levels and flows related to all kinds of disease can be balanced through the points, helping the affected organs work healthily again. Organ disorders can be treated with this method, and nervous system diseases, paralysis, painful joint diseases and allergies are among the main conditions treated. No medicine is used in these treatments; the effect comes only from stimulating the points.

Gold acupuncture

Gold acupuncture helps patients with chronic joint pain caused by hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, knee arthrosis and arthritic changes in the spine, and the problems that follow. We have used this method at our hospital for more than 10 years as part of a holistic orthopaedic approach.

Laser therapy

This is a non-invasive treatment. At our hospital we mainly use low-level laser therapy together with laser frequency therapy. Light of a specific wavelength raises the energy level of cells, increasing their repair capacity and metabolic rate. Healing becomes faster and takes much less time. Together with the laser light, resonances at certain frequencies also balance various processes in the tissue and increase their activity. Some of these frequencies are the Nogier, Bahr, Reininger and chakra frequencies. This treatment has become indispensable in pain management. It starts to act on the tissue immediately and continues afterwards, supporting regeneration.

Homeopathy

This discipline, based on the principle that “like cures like”, was developed in the 1800s and is still used today. Because certain rules must be followed, remedies should not be chosen at random; treatment should use remedies chosen for the symptoms found through a systematic examination, so that the causes of the disease are removed. In this way the disease is treated at its root, does not come back and lasting recovery is achieved. Remedies can be given by mouth or by injection, depending on the owner’s preference. After an initial worsening, a fast recovery follows and the patient gets well.

Dorn therapy (massage)

This treatment is based on using special massage techniques to bring joints with chronic posture problems back to their natural position, and it is also used for animals. Over time, uneven load distribution caused by arthrosis slowly leads to painful joint and posture problems in the skeleton. The massage moves the joint gently and passively to improve mobility and restore its natural structure. It is a method that gets a very quick response. It treats long-standing problems in a very short time, painlessly, and improves the patient’s mobility.

Breuss therapy

Breuss therapy is also a special massage technique. It works only on the neck and spine to help the patient recover, and it is applied in a similar way to Dorn therapy. It is effective in quickly releasing blockages and pain in the back. Patients find it very relaxing and tolerate it very well.

At our hospital, complementary medicine is practised by Erhan Gökdağ.
