Surgery

Surgery unit at Urlavet

Our main areas are soft tissue, orthopaedic and eye surgery. In abdominal surgery we commonly operate on diseases of the reproductive system, carry out spaying and neutering, intestinal surgery (foreign bodies, intestinal blockages), gastric torsion (bloat), tumours and diaphragmatic hernias. In orthopaedic surgery we perform all operations except spinal surgery and neurosurgery. In eye surgery we mainly treat eyelid and corneal conditions.

Gas anaesthesia

Gas anaesthesia stands out for its safety and for how precisely the depth and length of anaesthesia can be controlled. Breathing is controlled with a ventilator, which helps prevent most breathing-related complications. When needed, we combine gas anaesthesia with other medicines and use different anaesthetic protocols depending on the patient’s age and the length of the operation. The right anaesthetic protocol prevents much of the pain during and after the operation.

Intensive care

Before and after an operation we check our patients’ blood values (laboratory), heart (ECG monitoring) and oxygen levels (breathing). An operation on its own does not make a patient well. How the patient wakes up from anaesthesia and returns to normal activity matters just as much as the anaesthesia itself.

Emergencies at night

A vet is at the hospital at night. When a fracture or another condition needs surgery, we give emergency care at night to get your pet’s pain and condition under control, and the operation takes place during the day. See 24/7 Emergency.
